'Corruption fight meaningless until Nyantakyi prosecuted' – Anas Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has started an online campaign to collect signatures as part of processes to mount pressure on the Attorney General to prosecute the former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi. Fifa banned Mr Nyantakyi for life from all football-related activity in October 2018 following various violations of the governing body’s ethics code, including bribery and corruption, as captured on video by Anas and his Tiger Eye PI team. Mr Nyantakyi, who was a former member of Fifa’s General Council, was caught on camera bagging several wads of dollars, which, according to Anas and his team, was a $65,000 bribe. The Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency, Honourable Alexander Afenyo–Markin, has launched a spirited defense for Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong, saying that the vociferous did not assault any police officer for which he should be arrested and prosecuted. The police administration has requested parliament to release Mr Agyapong to the law enforcement body to assist them with investigations into a case of assault lodged against him. The 19 March 2019 request to the Speaker of Parliament said a police officer, Detective Sergeant George Ofori, had reported an alleged assault on him by Mr Agyapong. “The said incident is alleged to have occurred on 14 March 2019, during a demonstration by students of the University of Education, Winneba,” the letter signed by the Director-General/Administration, Commissioner of Police (COP), Mr Ken Yeboah, said.
